safety in and around PV

I agree. We have felt very safe while walking around PV. Off the main strip we have felt safe as well. WALK AWAY! It is the only way to truly get the local feel.

Thanks to everyone....I think that is enough to make me feel safe again after reading that government statement. I think, as you say, that it is more for Mexico City.
I think we have decided that our 8 day 7 night trip will include a rented car for a day to travel either north or south through the coast. Which way is better?

Go and feel safe. I have never felt frightened at night in PV, even in dark out of the way places. They have tourista police (the ones all in white) should you have a problem. They are always visible. You should always use common sense. I would not go walking on the beach at night unless you were with a group of people though.

I was overwhelmed by all the great info. My husband & I are making our first trip to PV in July. I was also, very concerned about our safety. Your comments have really set me at ease. Now I can concentrate on having fun & seeing everything we can in a week. Thanks again. This is a great website!!!!!!!!!

The only safety issue I have come upon is you really need to watch where you are walking. Some of the sidewalks are quite uneven and if you are not careful you will stub your toe or trip. And with all the beautiful stuff to look at, watching where you are walking is quite hard.

Oh, and another safety concern.....those busses. When trying to cross the streets keep in mind the busescasn really move! Pedestrians beware. There is so much going on it is easy to be looking at something when one should be backing away from the street to let that bus go blasting by. The taxis can also be a bit dangerous for pedestrians, but less so. I have also seen both busses and taxis stop to let pedestrians cross.

The only problem we have had there is the transit police when we hired a car for a few days. we were stopped 3 times and the police wanted bribes.
