AI resorts in Puerto Vallarta

I am getting married in March and we are looking to spend our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta. We are torn whether to go AI or just get the flight and hotel and eat/drink where we want. I have a ton of questions, but I will just start with a few and any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) Are the food/drinks at AI resorts always buffet or can you order and eat alone? Do you recommend AI?
2) At places that are not AI, is the food expensive... for example what would estimated food and drink be for 2 people for 5 days?
3) Are the RIU Jalisco and Marival nice resorts or should we should we spend go to Fiesta Americana for the same price; or should we spend the extra 400 and go to La Jolla Mismaloya or Villa Premiere?

Congratulations, I can tell you there are lots of places to eat very nicely and at a good price, just check out a lot of the posts on the resturant section of this BB. I am usually luckey to get a great deal through Funjet for the AI resort- Golden Crown Paradise. At this resort all resturants are ala-carte and the food is a cut above. Usually with the deal we get we still are able to go into town 3 time during the week and have very nice meals at other places.
There are alot of us who swear by this resort as a laid back and fun place. It is anything you want to make of it. Lots of activities and very close to town, nice beach and the ability to use the sister resort next door for an additional group of resturants.
