Most of those hotels you named I would go near with a 20 foot pole! They are cheap, not exactly clean and they attract that type of customers.

Try the Hotel Posada Rio Cuale or the Hotel Posada Don Roger. These I would recommend.

I stayed at the Hotel Yasmin three weeks ago. The hotel is next to Cafe de Olla and ony a block to the beach. It was sparten, but clean. Rooms were $310 Pesos for two people. Ask for a courtyard room, as the street rooms are noisy.

Have you tried looking on skyauction.com? Depending on when you want to go and what kind of vacation you want, they usually have some pretty nice resorts up for auction at very reasonable prices. However, make sure you read the small print because there are additional fees on top of your bid price.
