Originally had a deluxe ocean view room at the Marriot Casamagna in Nov. 2002 and changed to the Camino Real after a co-worker had stayed there last spring. Big mistake, at first glance the place seems ok but after 1 night we had enough and wanted \"more\". The Camino is definately not a \"6 star\" luxurious hotel. It may have been one 30 years ago when it opened but it no longer is. After checking out the Marriott and seeing what we were missing we made every effort to move ourselves to the Marriott. Unfortunately, they were completely booked so we had to move to the Westin which was just as nice.

The Camino has a nice \"secluded\" beach but the pool is literally not much bigger than someones back yard pool. They have two pools but the one is set off to the side and was not functional. The beach is \"enclosed\" by rock walls so their is no way to take a long walk unless you want to.....walk back and forth since the length of the beach is not very long.

We had upgraded to the club room which had a nice balcony, however, the room was rather stark and uninviting. Now my wife and I are not people who complain, but when your paying for a nice vacation you want those amenities that make a \"south of the border\" vacation special. I had even scoffed at some of the replies on this site regarding the Camino and other hotels and did not fully understand until I got to Puerto Vallarta. If you want a Nice hotel with up to date amenities I suggest looking elsewhere. You will not receive the \"resort\" atmosphere at the Camino Real.
