Dreams/Camino Real Puerto Vallarta - Beach Area

For the most part, the waves depend on the weather. Since Vallarta is in the middle of a big bay, the waves are not as big as they are outside of the bay (such as Sayulita where they do more surfing).

In the morning, the water is typically more calm, until early afternoon when there is more of a breeze and more waves (especially towrds the north)...but all in all, the waves vary on the time of year, tides and weather patterns.

The rule of thumb is snorkel during the morning, sail in the afternoon.

February tends to have more waves for some reason...although since we have a hurricane (very far off the coast) we may have larger waves over the next few days.

Hey- I just booked Dreams/CR for the first few days of October. Do you know anything about the extent of the \"renovations\" that are currently going on there? I was assured that they would not interfere with our stay- and that if they did- we could switch hotels. But we got such a good deal that I had to take it. Plus, we can have the convenience/benefits of an all inclusive and still go out for a few meals!

Any other tips regarding Dreams/CR?

Not sure what the bites are, but they could be no seeum/jejene bites (sand, not water)...I have been at the beach a couple of times where others will get the stings/bites and I will not. But, I always get bit when I go down to Boca de Tomatlan from the sand fleas or no seeums or whatever they are.

The line of black stuff is probably old vegetation, dried up seaweed, palm fronds, nuts, etc. When it rains hard, anything uphill must come down, and down is the ocean...so with currents and such, all the debris will wind up on shore with the waves.

After the rainy season, Playa Estecas is one of the most gorgeous around. Clear greenish blue water and soft sand.
