old vallarta, zona romantica, elcentro......what is the difference if any....

this will be our first trip to PV - we usually do PDC.

we are looking for cheap lodging - preferably on the beach or 1/2 block away. we like to pay approx 30 - 85 per night. dont need alot of amenities. just hot shower, bed, electricity (of course), porch or patio or terrace with a view of some sort, and not much else! we are early risers and love to grab a cup of coffee and watch sunrise, walk a little, eat breakfast and read paper, walk, read, then we like to find a nice spot on beach where you can retn chairs and umbrella for the day and be served lots and lots of cold cerveza and water, have lunch, read, sunbathe, hit a happy hour. maybe take a short nap, eat dinner and have some drinks...go to sleep and do it all over again the next day!!!

where do you think would best suit us? we love the feel of PDC - so whatever is most like that.

thanks in advance.

Pretty much these locations are all within the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta. You should be able to find just what you want down there.
 We once stayed at Buenaventura Hotel and Beach Club. It was downtown just as the Malecon begins. The rooms were big, clean, we had a jacuzzi in our room, the pools were nice, there is a palapa bar and the wait staff was attentive. One of the pools is just for sunning with concrete lounges built in the water - perfect way to get sun and stay cool! We were in the front of the hotel and did not experience the noise from the Malecon behind us. Right on the beach with chairs and umbrellas and palapas for shade!
thanks for your input! that is one that i am looking at.

the others are:
el pescador

playa los arcos

tropicana

any thoughts?
my vote
if you want to stay downtown area, i think the buenaventura is the place to go. now i have heard that some of the AI food is not that greatest, but when you are a stones throw away from the malecon and all that they have to offer who cares. There is a great italian resturant just down the street from the BV, and then just keep on walking the malecon and you will find food, dance, drink, parties all night long.

have a great time....
Three cheers for the Rosita...just ask about the rooms as they all do not have air conditioning...I stay there all the time and will be there again on the 8th. Great place for breakfast overlooking the pool and the bay. :D
input is much appreciated. will look into rosalita.

Old Vallarta (it is not really old Vallarta though) and zona romantica are the same place. A lot of people simply call this area the South side. This is an area just south downtown and on the other side of the Rio Cuale. Here is where many, many of the Restaurants are. This is also where the beach side restaurants and bars are located. The area of the beach along the south side is called Los Muertos. El Centro is basically the downtown area including the Malecon. If you are staying on the south side, you can easily walk to the Malecon and to shops and restaurants in El Centro.

I have not stayed at the Tropicana (We own our own condo and a time share before that), but I know a lot of people that love staying there. It is located right on Los Muertos on the South side, close to everything.

Good luck and have a great time!! :D
