first timer in pv, which hotel

Good to see you going to try PV. Need more info on what you are looking for in your hotel and what kind of plans you have.

as my distinguished friend Mr. Chuck says... we need more information.... if you check out his postings as well as ours... you will see that we are multi-returning guests of the Golden Crown Paradise.... but my wife and i have stayed in Nuevo Vallarta for quite a few years before finding the Crown Paradise, we have also been to Jamaica six time, and Matzalan twice.... but if you look for posts by Chuck and myself, you will find a lot of information on the Crown Paradise

I am going to be there with my girlfriend, both 30 years old. We are looking for a nicer hotel in terms of cleaniness, food, location to town. We like to do excursions and explore the town.....Not the type to spend 1 week lying by the pool/beach everyday...Maybe 2-3 days out of the week, we will stay at the hotel.

We have booked the Golden Crown Paradise, a last minute deal departing Oct. 31 from Toronto.
Looking forward to it, seems like there are some good reviews of the hotel.

A few questions:

Since there are no buffets for meals, do the a la carte restuarants get full during prime dinner time? Do we need to make advance reservations for them?

Does the hotel have a tour desk to book excursions? Looking at the Tequilla 6? Anyone done that? Is the ruins visit worthwhile? and does that include any pyramid visits?

I am travelling with Signature Vacations, a 5 night AI package(Air,hotel,food) for 860 cdn, is that a reasonable deal?

I love the Qualton Club close to town and the staff there is great!

Commie, you asked about the ruins. I took that tour and it was a very fine tour covering ruins, pueblos and the tequila tour. As for the ruins are of minimal intrest to me since we have seen the mayan ruins in the yucatan, my favorite being Tulum because the setting over a cliff above the very blue Caribbean waters. Just my opinion.

If you got out of your hotel to dine you might have found out otherwise. The staff at such places as Chez Elena, Cafe El Repollo Rojo or The River Cafe would fit into the finest places in San Francisco or La. Many of Gloria Whitings waiters at Chez Elena come to her with little or no training & become so proficent they open there own cafes to great sucsess.

The point I was trying to make in my post is that some people goto other countries expecting things to be the same as back home. Well they are not.

And I say againThey are BETER than at home. One of the reasons I go to mexico (20 years now) is the wonderful food & service!

Frankly, you could read that sentence either way. Perhaps she is used to standards at home that are not as good as in PV!
But is not worth getting so sensitive over.

Commie, the report you wrote asbout P.V. was well written and quite complimentary of the region. But i must agree with some of the other views that Stew and Jennybean have brought up. You did appear to slight the standard of the food in Mexico. However, the way you defended yourself in a later post, i believe you probably did not intend to do so. Hopefully this is the case.

we have been to P.V. 6 times . We have never had a sub standard meal in all the times that we have eaten in P.V. Like at home, we may not have enjoyed a certain restaurant as much as another, but the food has never been sub standard.

This is really getting silly! I loved your trip report Commie, thanks for taking the time to write it. I understand completely what you are saying about the food. As you are from Toronto, you are used to fantastic high quality restaurants, as I am in Vancouver. And for the price you paid, it was a great deal! I find the quality and selection of food is not as good when the hotel (or town) is quiet during off season, but you pay less in airfare. Thanks again for posting.
