I am planning a trib to puerto vallarta this summer, I will also be staying in guadalajara for 2 nights. I was looking for an affordable hotel around $40/night can anyone suggest any good hotels near the tourist sites. I looked up a reasonable price for two hotels Mission Carlton guadalajara and Sereno Centro guadalajara, has anyone heard of them. Also what are the good areas to stay in Guadalajara, do you think I could get better prices if I wait untill I get there, I will be renting a car.

Thanks

I spent 17 days in Guadalajara in 2003 while going to language school. One week living with a Mexican family and 10 days at the hotel sevilla. priciliano sanchez 413. tel. 3614-9354. the hotel is very basic but very clean. It is walking distance to all the downtown sites. I spent two days scouting hotels near the school and this was the best of the low budget hotels.I thought when my wife joined me for the last three days she would want to upgrade to a better hotel but she was happy with the accomodations. My room had a double bed for $20.00 per night. I later changed to a room with two double beds (no king size beds) for $22.00 per night. I also rented a car from a local agency for a much better price than budget. I used Ohana car rental at manzana 493. there are many other agencies in that area. great fish and shrimp tacos at corner of donato guerra and av. de la paz. good luck. Guadalajara is a beautiful city, if you can budget more time there you will not regret it. I drove from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallatra on the tollway in around four hours. Guadalajara is not geared for the tourist as much as p.v. so my basic spanish helped.
