Ist timer wanting updates on the condition of the Krystal Vallarta. We were originally booked at the Sheraton but Kenna forced our tour company to switch our reservations to the Krystal. Any recent info would be appreciated.

After Kenna hit we were very concerned and began searching on the web for information on the condition of our hotel. The Sheraton seemed to be ground zero for Kenna according to our findings. The Sheraton website at first said they expected a January 1st opening. We were a little worried since our trip was scheduled for the week of January 11. Our main concerns were the pool area and outdoor restaurants that were affected would not be open and loud construction crews would be hard at work day and night. Our travel agent was in contact with the Sheraton and they assured her not to worry and they would be open January 1. After a few weeks our tour company made the call that they would not take the risk for their customers that the property would not be up to their or Sheraton standards. They gave us the option to cancel and be totally refunded, cancel and rebook another destination in Mexico, cancel and rebook the Sheraton ourselves and take the risk that they would eventually cancel us at the last minute and then have to scramble and find an alternative location, or be switched to the Krystal Vallarta or Marriott which were the 2 properties they had available in the same price range as our existing booking. We are travelling with another couple and we all decided we wanted to stick with Puerto Vallarta. We did not want to cancel and lose our flight reservations and take the chance they would fill for those dates or go up in price. We decided to keep our flights and be moved to the Krystal Vallarta which was not hit as hard as other properties. The property was also $100+ lower in price which we were refunded. A month later we feel we made the right call to switch locations right away since the Sheraton is now not scheduled to open until May and many other properties are now sold out for this week after many people chose to switch from locations directly affected by the hurricane.
