Playa de Oro

We are going on our happy vacation on January 10, does anyone know the condition of the Playa de Oro?

I have heard that it is open but not fully functionally. According to the Hotel Re-Opening update boards on this and one other site it was to re-open on 15 Dec 02.

I would be curious to hear what others have heard as I will be arriving in one week.

Playa will not open till first week in January.......call their 800 # listed on their website,,,,,
it will be close for you , you might want to consider a move before you go....or take your chances.

we are there the same time as you
our travel agent claims to have checked with the hotel and all is well
who can you believe
at worst we will get an upgrade to the crown paradise next door which has the same owners as de oro
actually our last stay at de oro was in 2000 and the ocean front rooms that are now crown paradise were de oro
we are 6 in numbers flying out of toronto at noon on the 10th

Friends just returnes and the upgrades you spoke of are drying up ...seems that with the other hotels being out of service people are rebooking before they go and there is next to nothing for vacancies at the other hotels , they were supposed to go to teh Playa and ended up being sent to the Hacienda a 2 star at best .

I just had my good friend slash travel agent call the hotel at (322) 226-6868. He spoke to the Front Desk and they said that they are 100% open / operational and booked to capacity right on through New Years. Should be a good time indeed next week.

We are also going to Visa and arrive on January 7. Our agent says all is operational and the only changes are that all 3 restaurants have been rebuilt and now instead of the Italian and Mexican restaurants, there are a Mediterranean and Japanese restaurant instead. But the large international buffet will still be there!
