Re:Please help with info on Mayan Palace
If the beach at the Mayan Palace in town is terrible, are there beaches very close by that we could walk to? And if we were to stay at the Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace, are there things to do near by, or do we need to love the idea of spending all our time at the resort?

This is a great site with lots of information. http://www.inside-vallarta.com/
If all you want to do is stay at the pool or beach then Nuevo is for you. You can still go on tours. Vallarta adventures office is in Nuevo and you go there to go on their tours, very close. Las Caletas is great tour. Beautiful beach and water with lots to do. You will love seeing PV from the water.
You can still take the bus or a taxi into town. It is just about a 30 min. or so ride. I stayed there in Aug and went into town everyday. The pool at the MP at the marina is very nice. You just have a very small beach. The beaches in PV are quite varied. The best are on the south shore only accessable by boat. Los Muertos is nice and is in the romantic zone south of the Cuale River. Lots of beach restaurants. The beaches on the north shore are good too. I am not as familiar with them though. You can get to them by bus. Check out the maps on the web site above.
Wherever you stay I am sure you will have a great time. But if you stay in Nuevo be sure to go into PV several times.
