PV or Cancun

I am going to Mexico with my husband, and two children (14 and 16 years) during July. Am I better off to go to Cancun or PV? I think PV sounds interesting with lots to do, but if I want beautiful beaches should i go to Cancun?

Having been to both sides with teenagers, I would pick the Caribbean side, too. You might want to look at Cozumel or Playa del Carmen, for a little less crowding. We stayed at the Barcelo Maya, south of Playa, an all-inclusive with a gorgeous beach by itself. It was large enough to have plenty to do for everyone, but we felt safe with our 14 & 17 year olds doing things on their own.

PV is my first choice. There is more to do and it is more authentic then Cancun. The people of PV are friendlier and more accomodating then Cancun. The beaches in PV are not as athesitically pleasing as Cancun but they are beautiful and unique as well but if you are going on the look of the beaches alone you might as well go to Hawaii if you are considering Cancun they are the same in terms of commercialism and scenery. Everyone that I have met that has travelled to both Cancun and PV preferred PV.

Thanks to everyone for the advice about whether to stay in PV or Cancun. We did choose the Mayan Riviera area and are staying at the Bahia Principe. Does anyone have suggestions for tours or side trips we should take in the area? Thanks again for the great advice!
