Riu Jalisco or Barcelo La Jolla Mismaloya

Started August 23, 2006 · 4,736 views · 4 posts
Planning on a quick getaway mid-september, I know, it is not the best time but hey, not everyone can travel year round....

I have been to Turks and Caicos Isld, Cuba and the Mayan Riviera. The time of year leaves us with the Pacific Coast, so PV it is.

Any info on these resorts would be appreciated OR other suggestions very welcomed!!!

Thanks!

Re: Riu Jalisco or Barcelo La Jolla Mismaloya
I had the distinct pleasure of staying at both resorts on the same trip back in May 2006. Spent 2 nites at the Barcello and 2 nights at the RIU.
Had a great time at both - but 2 different properties - all depends what you are looking for during your trip.

The Barcello - located south of PV - beautiful hotel and grounds and surrounding area. Mountains come right down to the ocean. Virtually no beach - wiped out in the hurricane. Awesome pools. Food was ok - we didnt starve. I would go back. Staff very helpful.

RIU - located north of PV in Nuevo Vallarta - right on an awesome beach.
The beach goes on for miles - very warm water and great waves.
Food again was ok - drinks were great. Staff were very nice, hotel was very nice.

We would go back to both properties at any time - as a matter of fact going back to the RIU in one week. We go back to the RIU because we
love to swim and play in the ocean.

RIU was far out from downtown PV, nightlife and places to eat - Barcello
was closer to downtown but still a cab ride or bus ride away. Again, we would go back to both properties but go to the RIU for the beach and ocean.

Thanks for the info!

Have you taken the bus or taxi when travelling from and to the Riu?

Have you done any tours during your stay? Canopy, Rythms of the Night, snorkel? Any suggestions?
Re: Just one small correction...
Jennybean..thank you for the correction on the beach...I had seen some pictures of the beach prior to the anamoly and it looked very beautiful...a shame it was wiped out...

We usually take a taxi when traveling in PV...but many take the bus as it is far cheaper...I figure I take the bus here to work everyday...when on vacation I am taking a taxi...its a personal preference

Cant comment on the tours, but I am sure they are all reviewed here on the board somewhere.
