RIU is classified as a 5 star in the brochures, and it is pretty darn close to it. The resort is huge and beautiful. Only about 2 years old. The downside is that it is a bit far from all the action downtown. You will love it, the food is great, the beach is super and calm, you can walk out into the water about 200 feet and still only be up to your shoulders. Unlike the downtown resorts where the deep comes within a few feet. If you want to be away from everything it is great. No complaints on the hotel, the rooms are beautiful, almost like suites. Do a google search, type in RIU JALISCO and you will find it easily. Have a great vacation.

i stayed at a riu in puerto plata, riu merengue, it was beautiful, absolutely perfect..except that now that i have experienced pv i would never want to stay in a huge resort like that again because u wont get out and see the REAL mexico. it is a great place if u want a totally high class holiday where people cater to ur every need, but if u are looking for fun and adventure i recommend getting a villa somewhere, or a hotel in town so that u can be totally in on the action. trust me i did it , and i loved it.
