I am told the water at the hotel is filtered, any truth to this or should i take caution? Also how far is it from the hotel to the beach?

The RIU (spelt Riu not Rui) is a world class resort, I would give it a 4 stars. 5 stars to me would be more like the Waldorf Astoria in NY. The water is filtered, and safe, only 2-3 years old., but with that said, if in doubt, err on the safe side. I enjoyed my stay and rated it at about 8.5/10

The Hotel itself sits back from the beach about 200 meters, but the grounds are well kept and clean. One thing I noticed, that will put alot of peoples minds at ease, are there are very few beach sellers, really just a token amount, probably because the Riu is more or less isolated, not like the Hotel strip downtown. However they do have one night a week where the walkway to the pool from the resort is lined with tables and sellers. I personally found prices to be way out there on the heavy side, Probably a trade off between the Resort and sellers in order to keep the sellers off the beach.
