I am wanting to try to get an upgraded room when we get to the Melia on the 5th. I know that many hotels all over the place will give you a \"free\" upgrade by slipping the person at the counter some cash. Has anyone used this in PV. Should I expect PV (or Melia in particular) to be packed in early May? Any information is appreciated.

Im thinking from what I have read on other posts here that there is a charge for a upgrade not so much a slipping of some cash. There will be others who know better than me though but this is what I assume.
No I have never stayed at the Melia. We are pretty young and so far we have taken vacations in different places every time. We dont plan on being regulars anywhere until we have went everywhere we want to go.
As for the rooms, I think we have garden view rooms, and we were wanting to make sure to get oceanview and as high up as possible. I guess we will just ask when we get to the counter. We were wanting to get the best rooms possible, as we are celebrating our anniversary. Our parents are coming too, and they are celebrating their 25th anniversary, so we wanted it to be memorable. Maybe I will just try to get in contact with them over email before we go to see what our options are.
