Velas Vallarta Suite Resort

I am planning on arriving in PV on April 30 and staying until May 7. We are staying at the Velas Vallarta in a two bedroom suite all inclusive. Does anyone have any information good or bad about this resort. Also is there anything interesting going on during that time frame. Cinco DeMayo???

My friends just returned from Punta Cana and were struck with the travelers flu... :( . Is this something we should worry about and are we allowed to bring food into Mexico..(crackers, etc..)

Every room overlooks the pools and the Bay can been seen from all but the very lowest floors (because of the trees). Nothing there faces a wall.

As mentioned before I have been there the last 7 years and will be returning again in Oct.

What specific questions do you have?

My parents have owned at Velas for about 10 years. The last time they stayed there, $300 was stolen from their room and the hotel would do nothing about it. We also own at Occidental and Paradise Village and now own a condo. Since then we refuse to stay there, and the service was mediocre. We just donate our weeks to a local school auction. The new Grand Velas in Nuevo however is WONDERFUL!

Very sorry to hear of your theft. I will relate a far different experience we had. One day when we returned to the Hotel we found a sealed note under our door. It seems we had left the safe open in a closet. The maid had called security, they came in and locked it and notified us. Asked us to please check to make sure all was still there. Everything was there and I will say it was far, far more then the $300 you lost (Not making light of it at all).

I have found nowhere in PV the service any better. That is with 22 years in PV in total. The last 7 at the Velas.

HJ..those are the stories I like to hear, and I think there are more good deeds done like that, that get under reported

It was nice to hear that someone who has given me (and millions more) so much fun has shared in my love of PV . She recounts a very heartwaming story about the events that led up to the Velas ceremony . Velas is a lovely resort . I agree with Chuck and Smitty, there is so many great things that happen in PV that are not mentioned and may sound just like it is part of the good times there. None of us are blind to the fact that bad things can happen anywhere. It is too bad that things are not always put in the prespective of how many bad incidents, in comparing to the amount of tourists and tourist days being spent in PV. While having something taken from you or being ripped off is awful, I would venture to say, probably less then in all of our home towns. I have no doubt that the people and authorities in PV are well aware of how much a good reputation means to the tourist industry and are harsh on those that sully that reputation.
