Instead of spending $3.50 for the cab, take the bus--about 5 pesos. They stop out on the main street which is just about a block away.
The front desk can tell you which bus, etc.

The spread between the cost of bus transportation versus cabs has become a lot greater during the past several years. The buses are not fancy, but they get the job done and for a lot less money. Also, during our last stay in March/April I experienced a couple instances of deliberate overcharging by cab drivers. As the town has grown some of this can be expected. However, I suggest that if you elect to use cabs, learn what the rates from one end of town to the other should be at your hotel desk and then make it a point ask the cab driver to give you his rate before you get in the cab.
