Have been to Puerto Vallarta on a Mexican Riviera Cruise. It was my favorite port. Never got out of town though. My husband and I are in our mid forties and are looking for an upscale hotel. We want a place with a beautiful pool and landscaped grounds. We also want an oceanfront balcony. Could be A/I or not. Please if anyone could recommend a few great places, we would very grateful.

That list should give you some to work with. Wherever you stay however, be sure that you venture into town - all of town, not just hotel zone or marina. Some of the best that PV has to offer is on the south side of the Rio Cuale. There you will get a real taste of Vallarta.

Looks like all of your choices are in the Marina area. Do you feel that is the nicer area to stay in? What about the Fiesta Americana in the Hotel Zone or The Camino Real or La Jolle Mismoyla in the southern end?Jennybean (Jun 13, 2004 11:36 p.m.):

The Premiere, newer smaller resort with excellent food and very nice rooms, close to town. The beach area is not the greatest but adequate.

Just noticed you mentioned the Camino Real. I think this is one of the classiest hotels in PV, if not THE classiest. But I should point out they just underwent an ownership shift. That may mean nothing, it may mean everything.
La Jolla de Mismaloya is very pretty.
My personal \"upscale\" choice would be the Grand Velas...I would LOVE to order from their pillow menu!! I mean, how decadent is that? LOL

Check out the Premier. Not much beach, like most other properties, AI or room only, your choice. The food is decent, all ordered from a menu, no steam buffets. Clean rooms all with ocean view. Nice pool area. Adults only. All in all a pretty class act.
