We went to PV for the first time from Jan 7-15 and stayed at the Melia in the Marina area. Just some background information, my husband and I both became Managers for different Gov’t/Crown Corps this year. Its been a very stressful year and the main thing we were looking for in this vacation was a lot of R & R unlike our fun but rather hectic Orlando trips we’ve taken previously. We’ve also been to Europe and several areas of Canada and the States. We also took our teens with us, ages 16 & 13.
Arrived Tuesday afternoon to the Melia and was shown to a second floor room with a crappy view. We were told that no other rooms were available. We also met Efrein (sp), a very friendly chap who had us scheduled for a vacation club breakfast before we knew what happened, lol. Once I figured it out, I told him we would go ONLY if he could get us a better room higher up. And sure enough, the next day we were on the 5th floor with a great ocean/town/mountain view. It was worth every minute of that 90 minute blah, blah, blah and as it turned out, Efrein helped us out entire stay.
The first day we just relaxed, checked out the resort, food, pool and beach. We were very pleased with the Melia. The beach is not that big but the pool is fabulous. The food was also very good for every meal with an amazing amount of variety. Chefs were constantly grilling meats or fajitas, etc so it was fresh. Also our first time for an All-Inclusive. Loved it and after dishing out $5.00 CAD for a mixed drink in town a few times, I liked it even more. I could go on and on about the Melia but I won’t bore you unless someone wants more information.
Spent Wednesday at the hotel and spent the evening strolling around the Marina area enjoying the sites, stores and dodging timeshare sharks. My son and hubby had a riot in the ocean with boogie boards. For myself, after being flipped upside down a few times, dragged along the beach with the waves (love the gritty feeling in my bathingsuit) and swallowing the lovely tasting ocean, I retired to my lounge chair and ordered a Pina Colada, dos Pinas actually.
Thursday, R & R during the day and went to the Malecon in the evening. Took the bus, enjoyed the ride, lol…was shocked to see the driver sitting on what was basically a lawn chair. We were ummm serenaded by a little boy who jumped on for a stop to sing and collect money. We liked the charm of the town, all the little shops and restaurants. This is also where my daughter had her hair braided. We just walked the malecon and streets checking out the sites. We were going to find a restaurant but they seemed quite packed and none of us were very hungry. We also booked a tour for Friday which turned out to be an adventure.
