drove last year for first time in mexico.
i would recommend defensive driving; not sure how much of a vacation
could be consumed with fallout from driving altercation.
pay attention to service/return roads and how left turns are made.
you will be fine.
unless you are staying in old town, just use taxis.

If you are a AAA member get a Mexico tour book from them. Remember that Mexican law says you are Guilty until proven Innocent.
