I agree! Use the bus. Parking is a bit of a nightmare in downtown PV... buses and cabs are plentiful and always full of surprises! Local entertainment keeps you amused, and the taxi drivers are always full of inside information. Plus, save yourself the stress of remembering to exit right to turn left......!!

have to agree with the ladies, the bus system keeps getting better and better each year, especially from the north... depending on the size of your party, busing may be the ticket, and with all the extra traffic in Vallarta right now, parking is at a premium even with the new parking lots... and when it gets congested down town, YIKES... you are on your own my friend... good luck with your decision making...

The cheapest rental car (compact) will run you about $35/day. While it is usually fairly easy to find a parking spot in Old Town, it is a nightmare finding one in El Centro (I usually end up parking on the little streets running perpendicular to the Malecon, back 4-5 blocks on the hill.) Taxis will be more expensive than the rental car and the bus is next to nothing. You might consider getting a car for a few days, just to have it for some relaxing sight seeing, and use other forms of transportation the rest of the time. Enjoy :)

p.s. About the rental car rates: You can find compacts as low as $162/week. But the insurance is the kicker. The cheapest liability-only insurance is $12/day. Full coverage is $20+. Many times the daily insurance cost is more than the daily car rental cost!
