Beware of the Fajita Republic

When visiting PV in February we ate at the Fajita Republic, and noticed that there was a Mayan Palace Time Share salesman talking to a couple who were in the middle of their meal. We commented on this, and left soon after. Last week we again visited the Fajita Republic, and this time we were attacked by a Mayan Palace time share salesman during our meal. I dispatched him very quickly, and informed the restaurant manager that we were very unhappy with the situation. The manager told us that there was nothing that she could do since the restaurant owners approved of their customers being bothered during their meals. If this is the way they want to treat their customers I for one will not frequent the restaurant again, and I encourage everyone who reads this to do the same. We need to begin making statements about these TS salesmen, and hopefully someone will eventually listen. While we can walk away on the street, sitting in a restaurant is a completely different situation.

There has been an OPC at Fajita Republic for years. I just tell them before we are seated that I do not want an OPC at our table, and have never had a problem.

Many restaurants have them, it is hard for an owner who is hurting financially during the slow season to turn down the $10 to $20,000 USD these places offer them to put in an OPC. If you are going to frequent Vallarta, when someone approaches your table being EXTRA friendly, just smile and ask if they are an OPC, and tell them you are not interested and would like to be left to your dinning. They will smile and go away. Chill out and enjoy the place, time shares are a huge business there are not going away in the foreseeable future.

I love eating at the Fajita...and have never been approached by timeshare folks..Maybe being a woman makes a difference...
You men that are bothered by them could maybe start dressing alittle \"different\" and see if that helps

Hi there fellow pv lovers, I personally feel that wherever you go in pv you have timeshare people, you just have to be very nice and repesctive, for this is a job just like all of us have jobs. I believe if you are nice to them they are nice right back. I do not own a timeshare at all (sometimes wish I did) but the vacation time in pv is a better comparison to staying in Alberta (Canada) all year round. I cannot wait until November when we go back. On your subject I have never been to the \"Fajaita Republic \"where is it located It sounds like a very enjoyable place. Whenever we have the time we go and spend it Burros Bar I love going to that place the staff are very enjoyable and very friendly.

One reason may be that you are under 30. Timesharks focus on couples over thirty with credit cards.

I would have not paid for dinner. Did you? Eventhough that is harsh, if you are being harrassed all through dinner.....

Do you seriously believe any BB has the \"pull\" to go up against the TS industry. Do you know how much of the economy relies on TS?

I think the more often you visit Vallarta the more immune you get to the TS folks. They are always a nuisance, but it is up to the indivual to determine how much of an annoyance we are going to let them be. I think there are various ways of dealing with them, one being as several have mentioned is to be upfront and tell everyone that you do not want to be bothered. You can say no gracias and hope that they are not persistent. I guess that I have been down there often enough that I recognize some of them and/or take the initiative and ask them which resort they are representing and then tell them, sometimes truthfully, that I already own there. Many of them have takens pictures of my wife and me, our guests, etc. and pretty much leave us alone. Sometimes we get some good information from them on new restaurants, etc. But, I think that it is important not to take out our/your frustrations on the TS people themselves and you can be rewarded in other ways.

I agree with Marcos. All what goes on in PV make it what it is. My wife and I had a similiar experience on one of our trips. Rather than buying the gum from the kids on the street, we took them to a ice Cream stand and treated them to Ice cream. They loved it. Let us take pictures of them eating the Ice Cream. Only problem, next time we saw them, they wanted more Ice Cream. Most likely very hungry. Of course, we treated them again. I would like to add, these kids were very polite.
