the prices have going crazy in P.V. . more the 75-100 % up in the last 3 years.!!!!!!! clubsandwiches 90 pesos , small pizza & coke 95 pesos , lousy steak 120 pesos .many people will not come back for sure !!!!to bad for puerto vallarta . manfred from manfreds restaurant in ottawa /canada

You are definitely right....prices have risen dramatically here in PV. BUT!!! There are still so many reasonably priced places. The places mentioned are mostly \"touristy\" places which are going to cut their own throats. Try some of the smaller spots and you can still have a great meal without dropping loads of $$$$. Remember that it is the drink prices that usually blast the bill higher (as in most places everywhere). There are literally hundreds of restaurants in PV and only a small handful have been mentioned. If you do a bit of searching, walking around, chatting with others you can find the lesser priced restaurants. Prices of food, gas, electricity, supplies have risen dramatically for owners-operators. Tourism is way down, regardless of what anyone says (seeing lots of people) and the impact of nearly all hotels going all inclusive are some of the factors that have forced prices up. I DO agree that many prices are outrageous....and something needs to be done. What or how I really do not know!!!

Well folks, I just returned from 2 months In PV and have to agree that prices have gone through the roof this year even more than last year.Here are some examples. Cheese Burger Paradise 13 dlrs Can. for a burger. Fajita Republic 18 can. for chicken Fajita. Bamboo 6 can. for tortilla soup. I could go on and on.
Talking to local Rest. owners they say its due to hugh tax increases that were put through by the govt. Well I dont buy it. If they want tourists to continue then they better look at their pricing. Talking also to local people some are considering moving out of PV. There is also hoarendous price increases for accommadations in the old town for any type of long term stay.
I will return next year however will be cooking more in condo. I dont mind going to the fish market and buying large shrimp and cooking for a fraction of the restuarant prices.

O.K. my turn, Jennybean is right, as is everyone else, about the taxes going up in PV. No one can deny it if they know anyone who lives down there and has had to face the increases in everyday living expenses. While the price of gas in the US took a good drop a couple of months ago, it too is climbing back up now. The gasoline in PV has stayed the same or gone up, (not down) the utilities, telephone, cell phones have all risen. So have alot of the basic staples like beans, etc. Of course no one can stay in business without passing the costs on in the goods, services they sell. I agree, price gouging will take out the businesses that do it. But as Jennybean said, PV has not been a CHEAP vacation place for several years now. Some people still have the mind set that you go to Mexico to barter and barter and barter some more, and then you will get it CHEAP!!! Unfortunately, those days are gone, but how can we complain? Read what everyone says about PV. The water is safe to drink, the town is safe to stay in, the hotels and resturants are clean, the trash is picked up daily. In other words we want a place with the standards we who visit there live in at home. If we want the \"Mexico\" everyone thinks of as cheap, the we get what we pay for and unfortunately you will only find it in the border towns of T.J., Tecate, Mexicalli, etc. I have to tell you the last time I was in Maui, (3 years ago) dinner in any of the resturants would cost between $75.00 and $100.00 US for two people, so by those standards PV is still cheap!!! One final thought is that we have to lose the mindset that is \"it only cost XXX$$ the last time I was here. We would be hard pressed to find anywhere in the world that prices have not risen. Find me a country where prices go down instead of up and I will be on the next plane out because it will surely be the next WONDER of the world. Those of us whose hearts are really in PV, love it for what it is A GREAT PLACE TO VACATION WITH SOME OF THE NICEST, FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE YOU COULD EVER WISH TO MEET!!! :-D :-D

Canucker I think the place you mean might be Marisco Polo, and it just got a rave review from a friend who returned Monday. She said it was great, food wise and price wise.

Palo Seco.....

lived there for two years....never a problem except for barking dogs early in the morning.....true that there are more nationals than foreigners....but I enjoyed the area tremendously....lots of people selling stuff on the streets, lots of local shops of all kinds in each little neighborhood....parked on the street for two years and never had a problem....

your not kidding the prices at most places were a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. i did the blue shrimp, got good food, shitty service and a nice 90.00 canadian bill for two. i would have paid less than half at home for the same meal. i wanted to try it, but it was the tip of the ice berg. a lot of other places were the same if not more. we stuck to our all inclusive even if it meant having the 10-12 day wanting canadian food craving. i cant complain about the weather though it was very nice. off the topic but the shop vendors should give people a chance to shop rather than trying to ram any product down your throat
