romantic???
Ok - when you want a romantic resturant do you want a view of the sunset, or does ambience count with nice settings, soft music available, good food, etc... Also, do you want to spend $$$ or do you want to spend $$$$$$ or do you want to shoot the wad $$$$$$$$$$$.....

River Cafe - is a nice resturant - attire would be casual elegant (nice slacks and polo or button down shirt) you will see all kinds of attire at all of these resturants because people are on vacation is their excuse...

Cafe de Artiste - a little more up scale, a little more $$$$$$$ but very nice, the ambience is very nice... in a castle style building...

de Santos - to me is a very nice romantic resturant for Lorrie and me... we like the simple atmosphere, with the jazz and blues playing in the background... and here too, you will see all kinds of dress and attire ....

i have been to all three of these resturants and have enjoyed all three... i am sure there are many many others out there as well that are oher posters favorite romantic resturant... so be prepared....

good luck, have fun, and enjoy Vallarta...

PV has plenty of upscale restaurants that will not be full of kids. That does not mean there will not b a couple of tables with children, but it definitely be like going to your local neighborhood pizza parlor.

All the previous mentioned are excellent. Also check out Trio and La Palapa for your anniversary dinner. Trio is one of the more upscale places in town, with Mediterranean cuisine. La Palapa is also upscale, and is on the beach with torches in the sand, very romantic. The latter is where I am planning our 20th in May.

As far as you being moved to Villa Del Palmar, personally I think you got lucky. Paradise Village is north out in Nuevo Vallarta, around 40 minutes and a $20 USD taxi ride to town. VDP is in the hotel zone, around $4 taxi (or cheaper by bus) 5 minute ride to town. Downtown and the south side (also known as Old Town and Zona Romantica) are where the majority of the great restaurants are. Have fun.

Trio is not consistant in my experience - though it can be quite good. So I would not go there for a special day.

I always enjoy river cafe, but its really hot and humid right now and its totally outdoors. So I would not recommend it either until November.

I think I would choose Cafe de Artist. Worth the extra money in my opinion for any special occasion.
We have been to Cafe de Artist 2 or 3 times and really enjoyed it!! The pumpkin and prawn soup served in a pumpkin is awesome!! I never thought I would like something like that. It definitely is the most expensive restaurant we ate at down there but the atmosphere and food were top notch and they remembered that we had been there before so that was nice!! :D
