Palapa restaurant on the beach at L. Cardenas

I have been watching this restaurant being rebuilt for the last year or so. It was almost ready when we were there in March 08. Is it open yet? I recall a sign posting what the restaurant name was, but my memory fails me. It used to be a Hawaiin Restaurant?? Anybody with any info?

It is directly north of Dacquiri Dicks. The owners also own Si Senor (and The Blue Shrimp). Food in those other places is OK. Prices are a bit expensive for their quality. I suspect they will have to shape up to compete with Dicks and Coco Tropical. Their primary market is tourists so they advertise heavily.

I went there for breakfast in October. It is a lovely place, but the service was slow.

Si Senor and The Blue Shrimp are very tourist-oriented. They have a lot a show and high prices. The food is good. The drinks are expensive. There are better values around. Try Coco Tropical just one block south and a favourite of mine. For a sunset, try Vitea just north of Rio Cuale.
