Reccomendations: Tacos Al Pastor?

Under 2 weeks now...any recommendations for these wonderful treats and where I can find some great ones, is much appreciated.

I second the recommendation of Takos Panchos on Basilio Badillo. I also recommend Carboncitos north of the Malecon. From the gas station , head towards the beach and you will see it. (street taco stand, but do not fear!)

I love what they call Volcanos. A small flat tortilla with the pastor, pineapple slice and cheese and cilantro, which I leave off..

Okay, I give up. What the heck is that thing hanging in the picture?

Hey Chevy Man - next time you visit your local mall - check out the Greek take out place in the food court - they will have gyro meat - which is cooked the same way but spiced differently from the Mexican version .

Yes but they taste waaaay better when you are standing outside in temperatures above zero!

Hey Chevy Man - next time you visit your local mall - check out the Greek take out place in the food court - they will have gyro meat - which is cooked the same way but spiced differently from the Mexican version . and it is usually lamb, Beef or Venison...the Mexican version is almost always pork, if not mistaken.

The meat spins on its axle, and there is a heat source behind it. It is a vertical rotisserie, basically. So it is cooking and staying hot, at least around the surface. They trim cooked, hot meat from the edge of the chunk, to serve to customers. Generally safe, but look for the stands that look clean and have lots of customers! Takos Panchos, mentioned above, is not a street stand but in a building, so keeping the place clean is easier for them.

Some cooks routinely cut the pork from the main chunk, and then place it on a griddle, chopping it up and cooking it further, so it is definitely cooked thoroughly. You can watch before you buy, to see if this is their procedure.

let me tell you a little secret...99% of all travel related sickness has nothing to do with food posioning.

People go to a different country, party non-stop, eat like crazy, drink more than they should and then do it for like 5-10 days in a row....oh yeah and then eat foods that are prepared differently or compltely exotic to their system.

I bet a lot of people do get sick....Mexico has very little to do with that.

Thanks for the replies it will be my 3rd time in PV and I am looking forward to enjoy it, I probably will dare trying that Food ( it looks as if it tastes really good) , My Friend always scared me away from it

We tried Takos Pancho this last week. Excellent and extremely economical!!
Nice people -- only open in the evenings.

Oh my!!! This looks really good. where exactly on the malecon can I find this? Hubby and I are going to be there in Feb and this looks like a must have.

A local was telling me to go to a taco stand \"around the corner from Mandala and up 1-2 blocks\" and this is only open at night. He said to get a \"Volcano\" there. I have had the volcano at Takos Panchos and they are really good.

Anyway, this is near the Malecon, and would be good for those late night munchies after dancing at a club on the Malecon.

I found a great little place with the volcano wheel 10 steps off the Malecon - It is located on the north side of the bridge on the Malecon where it crosses the rio cuale.

Amazing food- that is all i can say - some seriously amazing food!


The guy is kind of an entertainer with that big knife as well as he cuts and carves your Taco el pastor to order- He cuts a piece of pineapple off the top of the volcano for each taco = what is cool is how he flips it in the air and catches it with the taco in his other hand.

He rarely if ever misses either.

we eat here every year and love it. Perfect size tacos and so many varieties....Making me hungry thinking about it.

the asada is to die for as well - very tasty place!

Sells out by 10:00 pm often - opens at like 5:00 pm
