Restaurant Report from our Trip

We just returned from spending several days in PV. We had a wonderful time. I read many of the recommendations on this board and most of them were right on.

Here is a list of restaurants we visited:

Ernesto’s Good Eats – Great tortilla soup as stated on this board. I would say it was the best tortilla soup I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot since I’ve lived in Houston. Ribs were also very good. They weren’t the typical Texas smoked ribs but they were very tender. The fish tacos were also very good.

Mariscos Tinos ( Punta Mita) – I believe this is not the original location but the food here was great nonetheless. The seafood was very fresh and the bbq snapper was stupendous. The snapper was huge and the prices were very reasonable. Again, I’ve lived in the Gulf Coast all my live and I have to say this is one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had.

Pie in the Sky in Bucerias – desserts were very good. I just wished they were in PV and closer to town.

Le Petit France – great service and great deal for a 3 course meal at $20. The food was very good for the price. Definitely a bargain for an elegant French restaurant.

Pipi’s – Great place and fun atmosphere. The fajitas were average by Texas standards. I’ve eaten fajitas all my live and their fajitas were ok. I knew I should have ordered the mahi mahi but I wanted to try their fajitas. The guacamole prepared at the table was great though. Service was very good and attentive.

La Palapa – Great restaurant in a fantastic setting. Food was outstanding and portions were a bit small. I would say the prices were a bit high but it’s easy to ignore the prices when you look at the sunset.

Memo’s Pancake House – very good breakfast at reasonable prices. Banana and pecan pancakes were very good. Eggs benedict was prepared just right.

Las Tres Huastecas – mediocre breakfast although it was inexpensive. We were the only people in the restaurant and the server acted like she was angry at having to work that day. I would have gladly paid extra to go back to Memo’s or try Fredy’s El Tucan.

Tarantino’s – last minute decision to go here due to time crunch with catching departing plane. We were pleasantly surprised with the pasta dishes. They were very good and prices were very reasonable. I saw their wood burning oven and wanted to order a pizza but was afraid it was going to take too long.

Le Calamari Adventuras – on Constitution near the river shops. This is my “find” of the trip. Most people would walk past this restaurant since it doesn’t look nice from the outside. The restaurant has bar stools on one side and a sit down restaurant on the other side. We were walking around and saw quite a few of the locals eating on the bar stools. I know from past experience that when you see a bunch of locals eating at a restaurant, no matter what it looks like from the outside, it’s probably very good. So, we approached to see what they were eating and the food looked very good. We ordered shrimp and fish tacos and they were fantastic. And best of all, it was very cheap. I love finding places like this b/c most tourists would never eat at a place like this. I had to convince my wife to sit down and she was very happy we did.

We tried to find Machi’s BBQ but couldn’t find it. We wanted to try so many more restaurants but there are only so many meals in a deal. Thank you to all who provided information on this board.

I got back last night from Vallarta and went to Pipis because I heard on hear how great it was. the dip was good but the fajitas were not good. my fiance owns a mexican restaurant and we were greatly disappointed. Not recommended at all!!! Gee, that is too bad. I have loved their huge combo fajitas and tableside guac for ages now and send amigos there who tell me how much fun they had. But, all places have ups and downs and bad/good nights. Yourr coming from a solid background tells us you know good food!!!
