Best place to but reallllly good tequila!

Where are the best shope in town, and is it actually cheaper to buy at the airport in the duty free shops?

Try supermarkets or LA PLAYA close to BBG and Sheraton. Good prices.

Casa Tequilla \"IS\" a great place. You can sample the different brands and get advice on each one. The only thing I noticed is that the price for a bottle of tequila was pretty high. Obviously you are paying for the service.

I found out which tequila I liked by sitting at the bar in the Hard Rock Cafe. The bartender was more than happy to let me sample the different brands. Biggest drawback... I could have bought a whole bottle for the price I paid for the shots. Oh well, it was still a fun night.

My advice:
If you are looking for a good price for good tequilla, find out what you want first by trying some at a bar and look for it in the super mercados and other stores. Even the Six stores sell decent tequilla.

Locals are glad to give their advice, just try them out before you buy a whole bottle. Tequilla is much like scotch, you may have different preferences.

Since I see that you are staying at a beach house on the north side there is a tequila shop in the Paradise Plaza Shopping Mall in Nuevo Vallarta. They will let you taste different tequilas if they think you are really interested in buying them. Good tequila is not necessarily cheap though...and I am sure that is not the cheapest place, but maybe you can find a brand you like and search other places for a better price. We brought home a really expensive bottle from that store and it is like sipping cognac...not to do shots with!

I found Don Julio Reposado for 310 pesos at the Super La Playa, one block up from the Malecon behind Rolling Stones Leather.

But truly, find what it is you want to buy first by sampling - tequila tour to Pitillal or Casa de Tequila are good places to start. The duty free at the airport used to be the cheapest way to buy tequila, but the prices are no longer the best, and the selection not nearly what you can find in town.

Don Julio Reposada is my personal favorite. That is a good price at 310. Two years ago I bought the same bottle for 299 Pesos at the Lays Store at the north end of the Malecon.

Never brought any back this year, we tried a couple of others while we were down but I still think Don Julio is my fave.
