Hairbraiding

Has anyone ever had their hair braided? Is it OK to have it done by one of the people on the Malecon or the venders on the beach? How long does it usually take? Does it damage your hair? How much should I expect to pay? Tip as you would your hairdresser? Any comments or advice will be much appreciated!

As someone said earlier, it looks good on little girls. Please, please , please DO NOT do it if your hair is not long. It really looks ridiculous.
