Learning to speak Spanish

Kathy and I speak a little high school/college from 40 years ago, also. We find that by going to PV, speaking as much Spanish as possible, the people we talk to are more than helpful with us for proper useage and pronunciation. Plus it is just fun. Chuck... 8)

I think taking classes is by far the best method. Check out your community colleges, etc.
You really need to speak it out loud to learn.
Of course the best way is taking a trip to Mexico! AND being willing to attempt to use what you know, no matter how small it is. People love to help you and appreciate even the most feable attempts, in my experience in Puerto Vallarta.
Also watching Spanish TV or movies and/or listening to the radio is helpful. Commercials especially are good because the vocabulary is so basic. Part of learning is of course actually knowing words, grammar, structure, etc. but an important part is developing your \"ear\" for proununciation, timing, inflection, etc.
claro que si!

I think i have on our next garage sale and computer CD set that will teach you spanish as well. I will have to dig it out and ask lorrie what we are going to do with it for sure. We got it from somewhere way back when, but never bought our home computer since we sit in front of them all day long.... may make you a deal on that as well Sandy...
Good ideas everybody... i may even look into some of these for lorrie and i to work on as well....  8)

I took 3 semesters at our local JC just for fun. It was the most enjoyable courses I ever took.
i think that is what lorrie and i are going to do, check with DMACC in Ankeny about attending some night classes on spanish or see what they have for a summer course...
I will check on it tonight, or i might e-mail lorrie to check on it today during break and lunch when she goes home to check on Sunshine our dog... will let you know later....

John & I have been trying to learn spanish for a few years and just could not \"get it\". We finally ordered spanish for dummies and spanish phrases for dummies. We learned quite a bit from that (is a good reference book if nothing else). We have found this the easiest method so far. We did just order Rosetta Stone lesson 1 & 2. Is very pricy but hope it is worth it. It just arrived YESTERDAY! Cant wait to start using it. Glad to see so many good comments on the BB for Rosetta. The problem I have with learning spanish is the grammer part. When reading spanish for dummies I learned alot until I got to the grammer section, then I just plain loose interest as it gets so confusing for me! Maybe if I would have paid attention to english grammer in school..... lol.... oh well. Good luck to you Sandy. Who will be there in August? My husband and I will be there August 5th - 12th for his 45th bday.
you might be able to find the Rosettastone materials on ebay.
Yippee! Our rosettastone was here when we got home Friday night. First thing saturday I downloaded it on the computer. I seem to be learning and retaining soo much (yes, it just two days) :D ! Hope all the lessons go this smooth. Very pricy but I think will be worth it~
well i may even have to check this out as well... have to really work on my spanish that much more.....
  8)
