Tequila

i AM LOOKING TO BUY A VERY GOOD TEQUILA TO BRING BACK. aNY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHERE TO BUY?

there are lots places to buy any and all alcohol. I personally use the Super La Playa stores. But i also price shop them and then compare to Mega, Gigante, Wal-Mart, etc... They have the best prices for my Jamaican Rum. An excellent sipping tequila is Don Julio (the dark bottle).. there are others too. Now a place to go sample tequila is the Case de Tequila. Excellent tasting bar with a great little resturant there. Good luck and happy tasting...

the best tequila we ever bought was in a square/rectangular shaped bottle, it had a large wooden cork/lid...I cannot remember the name of it but we did have some difficulty finding it...the one bottle we finally located was the last bottle that store had - we also bought some tequila (not very cheap though) on one of the tours...

There is a place downtown called Casa de Tequila that allows you to sample :D ! I think there is also a place on the same street as Andales, but I am not sure on that.

yes they let you sample tequila at casa de tequila...the coffee one was pretty good...BUT BEWARE...they also tried the time share bit on us there. As for the la playa....you get better prices at the la playa in old town as opposed to the ones in the hotel zone. I priced Don Julio once when i was there. the hotel zone and the gigantes werent any cheaper than I could get it in the US. FYI I think a bottle of Don Julio Anejo(the dark sipping stuff) goes for around $45 US....if you want to make margaritas on the rocks try Don Julio Reposado which is around $37 US.

Is Patron very popular there?

Buy it at the airport duty free shops when leaving.. they have all brands and the prices are good.

i have been known to bring back my fair share of bottles back. one year i think i was over limit by 14.5 liters... but the duty on this is only 10% of the purchase of the booze. If you have your receipts for your purchases, present that to the customs agent, and pay 10%... one year it only cost me like 10 bucks... oh well... big whoopee deal.... ok now that i have jinxed myself...

Regarding bringing it home. Is that really so that the duties are only 10% on any bottles over the limit? Is this the rule for Canada or the US? How about for us Canadians flying home from Mexico to Spokane Washington and then driving back home to BC. Is it gonna be hard to bring liquor home? Do we have to pay duties twice on our booty?

I have no problem with declareing all my liquor if the duty really was only 10%. A bottle of Kahlua for $8 from Walmart, and $0.80 duty, thats fine with me. I would bring 4 or 5 bottles at that rate.

Please tell me that this is so.
