booking activities on los Muertos

Started June 23, 2006 · 9,224 views · 11 posts
Has anyone ever booked a tour with any of the \"brokers\" that sell activities and tours on Los Muetros beach?
Three years ago a guy came up and offered us an ATV tour for almost half the price the large activity companies charge. He showed us his I.D. badge/license to sell activites.
So we went for it, we paid him cash and he gave us directions and a reciept. After we gave him the money we panicked \"what were we thinking? giving a stranger $100 dollars.\"(suckers!) He gave us his home number and said to call him if we had any problems. All turned out well, the tour was great. We are thinking of doing this when we return in August.
We we just lucky? Are they all on the up and up?

No. Most are legit, but not all. Very dangerous ground...

If you hand your cash to someone you may never see it again - at least with a credit card, you can chargeback and get your money back if you get scammed.
If he showed you his ID, gave you his home phone # and told you to call him if you had any problems, then as you found it, it was fine. The vendors on the beach are legit if they have a permit, are wearing white and are willing to give you all the info you request about them. Most work in the same area all the time and are very protective of their area. There are inspectors on the beach every day, looking for people working without a permit. Most of the time the vendors will turn anyone in to the inspectors that they know are ripping people off. They do not want the bad rap because it takes away from the way they make their living. Ticket brokers and hotels will tell you it is dangerous to buy from them because they want your commission for selling you the tour.
commissions
i second what kat said

most hotels want your dollar for just about everything

as a restaraunt owner ill give you a perfect example of there shenanigans

lets sy you want to go to a specific place to eat so alls good you got your decision down pat!!!!!

you ask your concierge to make a reservation on your behalf

without you the customer knowing they ask the restauraunt if the y pay commisions
if you dont pay they tell you some stupid reason why they are closed lol

sometimes people think the world owes them something
but forgets earth was here first

as for the vendors on the beach they might recomend a place to eat especially if they know exactly what your looking for

the folks on the beach are hard ass workers just think someones constantly jewin ya down on your price lol

there also a form of protection for some people especially ladies

I find the expression \"Jewing down\" Offensive. In over 20 years of being in PV, I have never heard a Mexican use that expression. Perhaps you would want to have your future Jewish customers think that you are anti-semetic? I think not.
:D I would still be careful about those vendors. I generally go to the Marina and ask around for the best prices. Last time I was there an older gentlemen booked all my tours. He was located in the center of the Marina and actually had an American guy with him. Because I kept coming back he kept giving me great deals and telling me what tours to stay away from because they are not worth the time and money. I got great deals and never had to be stressed about getting ripped off. :D
offensive

Bruce, I will accept the apology. I guess there are many expressions that are used, that should not be.
