going to NV in 3 weeks - best trips advice & help please

hi claire I can answer a couple questions My husband snorkled at los arcos and I cant remember the other (sorry)it was when we wwent to piedra blanca he much preffered los arcos for seeing different types of fish.

As for cheaper booking here or when you get down there IMO there is no prce difference so for the convenience I would book here and then everything is in place and set up for you. Hope this helps a bit.

I just got back from a trip to PV and I had so much fun.

I am a scuba diver, but all my traveling companions wanted to snorkel, so I booked us up with OceanQuest - a small but fun diving operation in the Zona Romantica.

The unfortunate thing is that the visibility at the surface is not that great at this time of the year. It was murky until you get down below 15 feet or so. My friends had a blast though snorkeling the first day at Los Arcos.

The best time was had at Majahuitas, the visibility was better there than at Los Arcos and we saw much more wildlife both diving and snorkeling.

My only problem with the Marietas is you never know how rough the ocean is going to be until you get out there. It is 25 miles from PV to the Islands, which is a long way to go to find out it is too rough to snorkle. When it is calm it is great, but when it is not... it is not a good place to snorkle unless you want to spend all your time trying to keep from getting pushed into the rocks. If the tide is in, the one small area of beach that you are allowed to go on the island, is not accessible and the boats are unable to get in really close. Unless you have snorkled alot and are a strong swimmer alot of people are not comfortable with the situation.

I prefer going south for snorkleing the majority of the time it is much smoother than out at the opening to the bay.
