Mexico City or other side trips????

Well have you looked at a map to see where Mexico City is versus Puerto Vallarta, as well as checked into the travel time to get there and back...

if you want a side trip with some excellent \"educational\" purposes for your kids, check into San Sabastian... and wonder little village up in the mountains (and with the new highway, it is supposedly a nice drive up there now).... the would see a coffee plantation, tortilla factory, learn of the families that came from Spain to mine the copper and silver from this region, etc. etc...

Just remember, conversational Spanish is not learned with one or two classes at the local community ed either... But just take in the small towns of Bucerias, Sayulito, San Blas, and Pittial... check out the small shops, the town squares, the beaches up by Bucerias and Sayulito....

Like you, I am always looking for a side trip in order to see more of the Mexican landscape. Over the last couple of years the trips have included Guadalajara, Tonala, Talaquepaque and last June, Barra de Navidad. We did the Barra trip all in one day--it was about 3.5 hours each way. Guadalajara is about 5 hours each way. T & T--just outside of Guadalajara--and I would park in Guadalajara and take a bus or cab to those. The roads were fine. Everything felt safe. Lots more to see on the road to Guadalajara than Barra de Navidad, but boy is B de N a charming place :) Next time, will do the San Sebastian trip. Just some suggestions.

Thank you for those suggestions Lynn. Are there any qualities or things you did that were special in these towns? Did you rent a car in PV and drive? Do you know if it is possible to fly into Guadalajara rent a car drive to PV and then fly back to the states from PV? Maybe this trip we will do the shorter day trips but next year...
