Well have you looked at a map to see where Mexico City is versus Puerto Vallarta, as well as checked into the travel time to get there and back...
if you want a side trip with some excellent \"educational\" purposes for your kids, check into San Sabastian... and wonder little village up in the mountains (and with the new highway, it is supposedly a nice drive up there now).... the would see a coffee plantation, tortilla factory, learn of the families that came from Spain to mine the copper and silver from this region, etc. etc...
Just remember, conversational Spanish is not learned with one or two classes at the local community ed either... But just take in the small towns of Bucerias, Sayulito, San Blas, and Pittial... check out the small shops, the town squares, the beaches up by Bucerias and Sayulito....
