whale watching

I will be in PV the 3rd week in March and want to go on a whale watching tour.
I would like to hear some recommendations. I have read all the other previous posts.

I have looked at Ocean Friendly Tours, Open Air Expeditions/Vallarta Whales, Ecotours and Scotts Best Tours/Vallarta Travel Advisors.

I have heard many great things about Vallarta Adventures, but I am looking for a trip with only a small number of people so they are out.

A whale watching trip maybe with some sea kayaking would be great - not really interested in the trips that include, beach tours, snorkeling, lunches, etc.

Vallarta Adventures has a few different options when it comes to whale watching. YOu can choose the all day affair which has a lot more people on it, and I think what you are trying to stay away from, but you can also do the exculusive 4 hour whale watching tour, and she is right, there is a maximum of 12 people. Small and intimate, and what is nice, the guides are in constant contact with the other boats on the ocean, so when a whale is spotted, they steer each other in the correct direction, instead of wandering the bay in the hopes of seeing something. I can guarentee you that you will love it and get some fabulous shots too. Just remember, on the 4 hour tour, there are no bathrooms on board, so be careful with what you drink before hand, or you may be jumping in!! :-)

Yeah, I have decided against Vallarta Adventures.

I want a smaller tour that is really just about seeing the whales.

Open Air Expeditions is definitely the tour for you, ask to have Astrid Van Dam as your guide, with luck, Oscar will be your captain, he is a marine biologist in charge of the sea turtle hatchery program, they both really know their stuff.

Make sure to book your tour for March 15th or before, as that is the last day of whale season, and boats will not be allowed to approach them after that.
