I would also recommend the water taxis, and avoid the organized tours. Yelapa is easily done on your own, as we found our first time there a year ago. We spent most of the day there, and saw the masses arrive when the tour boats docked, watch them get hurried here and there, and then packed on the boat to depart.

By far the most enjoyable time was in between tours, and we set our own pace for the day.

I would love to hear about the more local hang outs there too. I know people talk about the places that the tours take them, but we would like to find the little places that the locals enjoy.

http://www.yelapa.info Good advice. Yelapa is a very low key, relatively primitive community, tho I say that in a most positive way. You leave the rest of the world behind when you go, and many of the conveniences we enjoy. Many shops and restaurants do not have paved floors. Electricity and phone service are very recent, and the nicest hotel there has palapa-style accommodations. Go, kick your shoes off and relax. Most of us return to PV later in the day, where we can get our fill of more urbanized fun.

Thanks for info! I think our group would be up for a laid back day here and going by water taxi so we can set our own agenda. In all our trips there we have never ventured to this island mostly because the group we were with were more focused on laying out on the beach than any site seeing. This group though is much more about diving into the culture and experience the out of the way places! We are very excited about the trip!

Check out my pic. It is Yelapa when we were there March last year. In case I missed it. What is the cost for the water taxi? Is it a one way price or do you pay both ways? When we went, we were some of the masses but would like to spend a day on that beach on our own. What great water they have.
