The Michelin Guide Mexico 2026 awards ceremony will take place in Guadalajara on May 20, 2026, marking the first time restaurants in Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta, are eligible for Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions.
The expansion adds Jalisco, Puebla, and Yucatán to the prestigious guide, which already covers Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Baja California. For Jalisco, the inclusion means establishments in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and Puerto Vallarta will be evaluated by anonymous Michelin inspectors for ingredient quality, technical skill, harmony of flavors, and consistency.
State officials see the recognition as a major boost for gastronomic tourism. Jalisco has already designated 2027 as the Year of Gastronomy, reinforcing its commitment to culinary heritage and restaurant industry growth.
“Gastronomy is one of the strongest pillars of tourism promotion in Jalisco. In Puerto Vallarta, this richness manifests in an offering that fuses tradition and the avant-garde, becoming a driver of attraction for travelers from around the world. Events like Restaurant Week are fundamental, as they not only celebrate our culinary talent and local products but also democratize fine dining, strengthening the regional economy.”
— Michelle Fridman, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Jalisco
For travelers, the Michelin Guide arrival validates what many visitors already know: Puerto Vallarta’s restaurant scene spans from traditional cenadurías and taquerías to internationally recognized fine-dining venues along the Malecón and downtown. The Bib Gourmand category, in particular, may spotlight more casual and affordable local favorites alongside high-end contenders.
