Puerto Vallarta Electric Bus Service Starts with Free Opening Weekend

Puerto Vallarta’s first electric-bus system starts service this weekend, giving residents and visitors free rides on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, before the regular 11-peso fare begins Monday, August 3.

The Government of Jalisco said the new electromobility system will operate from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. along the Francisco Medina Ascencio corridor. It includes 19 electric buses, 10 additional concession-operated units and a free feeder service for students and staff traveling between the main route and the Centro Universitario de la Costa.

Two trunk routes are the core of the launch: Route T2 connects Ixtapa with downtown Puerto Vallarta, while Route T3 runs from Las Juntas to Galerías Vallarta. The corridor links practical visitor areas including the airport transportation zone, Marina Vallarta, the hotel zone and the Malecón / Centro area.

State officials said buses are expected every five to 14 minutes, depending on the route, and the units include air conditioning, video surveillance, LED lighting, low-floor access and wheelchair spaces. SIOP reported about 360 million pesos in supporting infrastructure, including charging stations, new and rehabilitated stops, lighting, signage and sidewalk improvements.

For travelers, the system does not replace taxis, ride-hailing or airport transfers, but it adds a lower-cost public option for moving along Puerto Vallarta’s busiest north-south corridor.
