In a move set to invigorate the local art scene and foster community identity, the Vallarta Institute of Culture (IVC) has held its first meeting with members of the Municipal Council for Culture and the Arts. This gathering signals the beginning of a close collaboration between the government and the artistic community, aiming to build a robust, inclusive, and participatory cultural agenda for Puerto Vallarta.
Driven by the belief that culture is a powerful engine for social transformation, the IVC presented a report of activities carried out from October to May. Highlights included successful initiatives such as the Day of the Dead Festival, the Reading Fair, the “Damajuana” Raicilla Festival, and the recent opening of the Cultural Heritage Information Center. These projects, supported by Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration, have strengthened local identity and created valuable spaces for artistic expression and development.
Guadalupe Gómez Basulto, Director of the IVC, introduced her team and reaffirmed her commitment to working hand-in-hand with creators, institutions, and the wider community. The inaugural meeting saw participation from representatives of various cultural disciplines, alongside Councilwoman María Laurel Carrillo Ventura and authorities from the Tecnológico Superior de Jalisco. All attendees expressed their eagerness to collaborate on future cultural initiatives.
