Puerto Vallarta’s Recuérdame Día de Muertos festival will add 10 new murals at the 5 de Diciembre municipal cemetery and a public gallery at Parque Hidalgo. The Instituto Vallartense de Cultura set the cemetery inauguration for Friday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m.
Artists paint the cemetery perimeter walls from October 23 through 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Each wall is about 4 meters long by 3 meters high. Official instructions ask for Día de Muertos scenes mixed with Puerto Vallarta characters, traditions, plants, animals, and local culture. Ten artists or collectives will be selected. Each finished mural pays 7,000 pesos, and IVC supplies primary-color paints, brushes, and rollers.
The same Friday, Parque Hidalgo opens a public gallery at 6:00 p.m. That show runs through November 3. Live painting is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on October 30 through November 2, with 10 spaces each evening. Parque Hidalgo sits in the historic center covered by the site’s downtown Puerto Vallarta guide, a short walk from the Malecón. The city’s Day of the Dead page explains the broader tradition these installations belong to.
IVC posted both calls on its website. Mirada Informativa and VIP Vallarta reported the cemetery mural invitation, including an October 19 documentation cutoff and October 20 selection date. Recuérdame is the municipal program. It is not the same as Jalisco’s Festival de las Almas. If you are in town in late October, the free public pieces to watch are the cemetery walls after October 30 and the Hidalgo gallery through November 3.
