This new aquarium, a project boasting an 80-million-peso investment, will span 2,200 square meters within Plaza La Isla on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue. It’s designed to be a vibrant and interactive space, housing approximately 2,000 organisms from 60 different species, with a particular highlight being its ten penguins in an interactive Antarctic-themed exhibit.
Biologist Pablo Rojas, the director of Acuario Vallarta, joined by engineer Raúl Escobar, who is overseeing the construction, presented the ambitious project. They emphasized its goal to offer a playful and educational environment where both locals and the millions of tourists visiting Puerto Vallarta can explore various marine species and gain knowledge on critical topics such as climate change.
Acuario Vallarta is not just an entertainment venue; it’s also a dedicated center for the conservation of wild flora and fauna. It plans to actively collaborate with municipal institutions, research centers, and private organizations focused on animal welfare and environmental protection.
The aquarium will feature specialized staff with extensive experience in the care of wild and feral species, ensuring an inclusive environment. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to step into an aurora australis dome, a specially designed space engineered to simulate the frigid conditions of Antarctica, allowing them to experience the beauty of the polar phenomenon firsthand.
