Puerto Vallarta is currently hosting the fourth edition of the Puerto Vallarta by UTMB®, the most prestigious trail running series in the world. From April 16 to 18, 2026, elite athletes and passionate amateurs are navigating a breathtaking course that traverses the Sierra Madre mountains, ancient agave fields, and dense tropical jungles, all culminating in a spectacular finish on the city’s iconic beaches.
The 2026 event features five distinct categories designed to challenge every level of runner. The flagship Hikuri 100K and the Nakawé 53K pushed off on Friday, April 17, testing endurance with significant elevation gains through the forest. Today, Saturday, April 18, the excitement continues with the Haramara 37K, the Ereno 20K, and the family-friendly Pata Salada 5K. This year’s series has seen record participation, with many categories reaching full capacity months in advance during the August 2025 registration window.
As a UTMB® Index Race, this event is a critical stepping stone for runners aiming to qualify for the World Series Finals in Chamonix, France. Beyond the competition, the race serves as a powerful showcase for Puerto Vallarta’s natural beauty and the cultural heritage of the Wixárika people. With the Hikuri and Nakawé races already producing impressive preliminary times at the Malecón finish line, the weekend is set to conclude with a vibrant celebration of sport and nature in one of Mexico’s most stunning coastal settings.
