Thousands Attend Independence Day Celebration on the Malecon

Thousands of people gathered on the Malecon to celebrate Mexico’s 214th Independence Day on September 15, 2024. The festive event featured live music, comedy, and a spectacular fireworks display.

El Grito (the Cry), a traditional ceremony commemorating the start of Mexico’s independence struggle, was led by interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil from the balcony of the Secretary General at the Presidential Palace. The event was attended by military officials and local residents.

Following the ceremony, a dazzling fireworks show illuminated the night sky over the ocean. The holiday is expected to generate millions of pesos in tourism revenue for Puerto Vallarta, with the city anticipating a hotel occupancy rate of 68.8 percent.
