I agree with AL about the same as the States. However, fresh fruits and vegatables seem to be cheaper and much better.
Especially the Mushrooms, brocoli, and the golden potatoes.

For the OP: Fruits veggies and some seafood (fish mostly) seem to be cheaper, and you can find a lot of Mexican brand name dry goods that are the same as US/CAD goods at a lesser price.
For the most part though, expect to pay about the same as home at the grocery stores.

Forgot to mention, the bakeries in the large grocery stores are wonderful. The smell of vanilla is everywhere and is sure to tempt even the strictest dieter.

Because they are Fresh and refrigeration costs, eggs will usually be fine for a couple days left out(longer they hatch). For a real treat check out the farmers market. Interesting to see stacks of fresh meat, chickens and fish laying out on open tables.Chuck (May 23, 2004 12:51 p.m.):

And for the origional question, there are several large MEGA SUPER stores, a couple SUPERS and lots of Mini supers. Prices are simular to where I live and like everywhere prices vary between stores. In the more affluent areas (ie.Paridise Village and maybe the Marina) prices seem to be a little higher. Mexican standards like tortillas, salsa, mole, chicken seem to be a bit cheaper. Good quality red meat and coffee higher. Places like WalMart and the Mega will have weekly sales.
Things that I take for granted at home and had a hard time finding in PV: Frozen juice(all jugged), black pepper(found at Paradise village), wash cloths(got an olfa) and rechargable batteries(never found).

Actually, unwashed eggs do not need to be refrigerated. No fear, these eggs are fine, and in many places in the world including the US, farm eggs are never refrigerated.
All in the all the food prices here are similar to food prices in the mid-west US> in season fruits and veggies are less by far, but imported fruits like grapes, cherries, apples can be very high. Soda is more expensive, and buying bulk does not get a better deal, there are not \"cases\" of pop- in the states, 24 cansd run about $5.00 a case, here, it is 24 cans times 4.2 pesos... (same as buying singles) and a two litre is about $1.50.

I am offended by your Yankee slam and wish to remind you that making derogatory commments such as many of your past posts have only makes you look small minded, not a intellectual. Lots of Mexican imports, melons,avocados etc. Locals have just planted tomatoes in the last week (Toronto) This part of Canada is known as the golden horseshoe and has some of the best farmland in all of Can. Everything from grapes(wine),apples, corn ,berries,peaches,potatoes, beans etc can be grown. A guy down the street has a nectarine tree in his yard. Urban sprawl is a big issue-farmlands being eaten up by developers at a nasty rate. It always amazes me when I see such cheap prices for fruit /veg imported from great distance, i.e. New Zealand apples- $1.69 lb.

There are so many villas in Vallarta, you will have to be far more specific. Some villas are worth 100, 000 US and some are worth 8 to 10 million dollars, not to mention locations, amenities, etc.
Tequila prices have risen all over, but still less expensive here for the most part. Check Super La Playa liquor stores, they seem to have the best prices. I prefer the one next to the Sheraton, they have a great selection.

Just taking a shot in the dark here (lol), but my guess would be Canadian exemptions and duty free would probably be on the Canadian Border Services website as opposed to the US one. The link I provided was to the US Homeland Security website.

yes it was. thx guys. i was just wondering how much has changed in the past few months. just to drive from the vancouver area down to washington is taking alot longer now.
