When are jellyfish apt to be around the bay?

What about June?

I can only talk about last week. No jellyfish, just really warm inviting water, with nice waves.

We have snorkeled in the bay each of the past four years in May, and this year was the first time we saw jellyfish. They were small enough to fit in an open hand, and our skipper Alberto informed us that this type does not sting and grabbed a couple out of the water and handed them to us. Guess what, Alberto has spent many years on/in Bahia de Banderas, and he was right no sting.

I lived a good part of my life near the beach spending plenty of time in the ocean, and except for them seeming to prefer warm water I still have seen no proof that there is a particular time of year for jellyfish. They just follow currents rich in food, so running into them or not is luck of the draw. Any experts on the subject that have data to show this theory incorrect, please feel free to inform us/me.

They are usually more abundant in the summer months. Alberto and I went out in July and there were alot of them, enough that we got back in the boat and found another area.

What about June? My daughter went snorkeling in early June. She got stung numerous times! We were on a day cruise and we went to a place just past Los Arcos and I had seen a HUGE jellyfish. It was January when we went. So needless to stay I never went for a dip. There also, I picked up a baby jellyfish. I actually thought it was a water bubble until I looked at it alittle closer and saw 2 little faint pale green eyes. I dropped it quickly not knowing if those little guys sting or not. :shock:
