Puerto Vallarta will unlock its historical memory on Friday, May 29, with a free public event titled Puerto: Archivo y Memoria, featuring unpublished documents, photographs, maps, and plans rescued by the Municipal Archive.
Held at 6:00 p.m. in the central courtyard of the Municipal Palace, the evening is part of the city’s 108th anniversary as a municipality and 58th anniversary as a city. City chronicler Moisés Hernández López will lead presentations explaining how oral tradition has long preserved Vallarta’s past, given the scarcity of formal municipal archives.
Municipal Archive chief Grace Kelly Ávila Peña highlighted ongoing efforts to rescue documents and lay the groundwork for a future Municipal Historical Archive. She noted that a larger space is needed to safeguard the documentary heritage and praised Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González for championing preservation projects.
Specialists from Guadalajara, Zapopan, and the Jalisco State General Archive will join local historians to present rare materials. The event is open to all residents and visitors interested in downtown Vallarta’s heritage.
