Puerto Vallarta’s Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport is entering the final phase of its Terminal 2 expansion, with the first six contact gates scheduled to open in December 2026. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), the airport operator, confirmed that the new terminal represents an investment of 9.2 billion pesos and is designed by renowned architect Benjamin Romano.
Once complete, Terminal 2 will span more than 119,000 square meters and add eight contact gates and four remote aircraft positions. Combined with the existing terminal, the airport will have a total of 19 contact gates, a significant increase in capacity for a destination that handled nearly seven million passengers last year.
Construction teams are currently focused on interior finishes, glass installations, and air conditioning systems. Beyond capacity, sustainability is a central feature: Terminal 2 is designed to meet LEED Gold certification through rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and energy-efficient systems. The three-level building will also offer streamlined passenger flow, expanded dining options, and VIP lounges.
Travelers arriving by air this winter can expect a smoother experience as the new gates come online. The project reinforces Puerto Vallarta’s role as a leading Pacific coast destination and supports continued growth in tourism and business travel.
