Our trip to beautiful Puerto Vallarta has been ruined. I know this story happens everywhere but it happened here. By one minute lapse in judgement we have been taken for approximately $12,000:00. My husband went to the cash machine in a local bank had a problem getting his card out of the machine a Man offered to help him get his card out of the machine switched my husbands card with another card and in 2 days managed to charge over $12;000:00 :00 going from one ATM to another plus Oxxo stores plus others. Not only was this money taken out of our account but it was the only bank card we had so are unable to get any money out. Our next step is to see if we can have money wired down to us. It only took a moment to relax let our guard down. Our trip here has been turned into a nightmare, the police were no help nor was the bank. Do not use your bank card on a Weekend do not for a moment think this will never happen to you. DJ
Very sorry to hear this happened to you. Thank you for sharing your story too as a warning to anyone anywhere, we are all easy victims when it comes to ATM machines. The scammers have learnt all kinds of tricks and they share them online. Some are very advanced with skimmers and webcams, others simple trickery and basic magician-style prestidigitation. Never accept help with your card at any place in the world. Somebody that is honest would never consider offering help with something so delicate and important. Try to always use the machines during the bank hours and after you’ve seen someone else using it.
Hope you can get your bank to cover this case, that’s why you normally pay fraud insurance.
