Puerto Vallarta’s tourist zone now has a cardioprotected space

On World Heart Day, the local presidency put a defibrillator along the malecón. 16 spaces in Jalisco have defibrillators and trained staff to use them in a myocardial infarction emergency.
On September 29, World Heart Day, the Emergency Medical Attention System (SAMU) of the Jalisco Ministry of Health (SSJ) and the Puerto Vallarta City Hall put up a Semiautomatic External Defibrillator (DESA) in the Tourist Zone of the Malecon.

Fernando Petersen Aranguren, the Secretary of Health in Jalisco, led the protocol act for World Heart Day, which is today, September 29th.

The head of the SSJ said this statement implies “we use our hearts to help others.” Third, we use our emotions to remember that we are part of nature.

Petersen Aranguren emphasized primary intervention. “Prevention efforts are the most vital, and I appreciate Puerto Vallarta City Hall for always being willing to take health actions,” he stated.

After noting that vascular disorders are the leading cause of death in Jalisco and Mexico, the Secretary of Health said that a defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death for vascular patients (heart attack).

70 to 80% of hypertensive and diabetic patients in the state are managed by general practitioners, so primary care is crucial to controlling these chronic degenerative diseases and preventing heart attacks.

Christian Eduardo Alonso Robles, president of Puerto Vallarta’s Civil Protection, Risk Management, and Fire Commission, praised the placement of this defibrillator “as a key device to ‘cardioprotect’ any person with a medical emergency of this sort.”

“Our priority will always be to ensure Vallartenses and visitors feel safe and protected,” said the mayor. “To make a difference in everyone’s life, we need to know we have the resources to act quickly and effectively.”

Jaime Alvarez Zayas, director of Health Region VIII Puerto Vallarta, emphasized the defibrillator’s strategic location, since dozens of people visit the Puerto Vallarta City Hall every day to carry out different procedures, in addition to the staff. He thanked the support for placing it there, in the heart of the tourist area of the boardwalk.

“This day is historic since it’s World Heart Day and a very essential activity to save lives,” added the official.

SAMU coordinator and technical secretary of the State Council for Accident Prevention (CEPAJ), Yannick Nordn Servn, said Jalisco has 16 cardioprotected sites with defibrillators and trained people in case of a myocardial infarction emergency.

These sites include the State Health Council building, SSJ’s primary offices, the Government Palace, and Puerto Vallarta’s first State Congress.

“Education matters. The SAMU must teach personnel so they can use the equipment when needed, “Alonso Tamayo.”

A myocardial infarction is a medical emergency.

For every minute a person’s heart continues in ventricular fibrillation, their life chances are reduced by up to 10%, making it vital to have a defibrillator at meetings and trained personnel.
